Does Woman Equals to Man in Islam | Woman Empowerment

Some people think that women are not given proper rights in Islam. Women are being limited to their houses. Some people take this as just propaganda of anti-Islamic ideology and our biased media. I think we need to have a look to check whether it is propaganda or not?

Greatest Gathering (Pilgrimage)

In our greatest gathering that millions of Muslims attend every year by Hajj packages, almost half of the pilgrims are women. On Hajj occasion the performance of Hajj and time period is the same for men and women. All the Muslims are equal in front of Allah Almighty.

Pre-Islamic History

In the pre-Islamic era, the newborn daughters were buried alive by the Arabs. As they think that they are just increasing their expenses and nothing else. But when The Holy Prophet (PBUH) came He guided people to not to do so. He (PBUH) also gave honor to the ladies in society.

Education

In pre-Islamic era, disbelievers don’t send their daughters to school for educational purposes. But our Holy Prophet (PBUH) said that seeking education is necessary for every Muslim including men and women. Their statement is clear about the women empowerment in Islam. Hazrat Aisha (RA) was also one of the best female Islamic scholars.

Motherhood

In Islam, a mother has a high value among her family. Allah Almighty had given the mother a high status in Islam. Here is a popular hadith about the status of mother on which the scholars of all the Islamic sects agree. Once the Prophet (PBUH) said, “Heaven lies under the feet of your mother”.  (Ahmad, Nasai)

At another occasion, a man asked from the Holy Prophet (PBUH) who amongst the people is the most worthy of my good companionship?

Each time, the Prophet (PBUH) replied, your mother. When the man asked for the 4th time, He (PBUH) replied, your father. This story clearly tells about the importance of a woman as a mother in Islam.

Politics and Social Working

From the very early Islamic day’s women has a high social value at every point. In Islam, a Muslim woman can express their thoughts on different social matters and their opinions are considered if right. Women also have taken part in the Islamic battles as a nurse and some even as fighters.

In the rule of the 2nd caliph of Islam Hazrat Umar (RA), he appointed a woman as a supervisor for a bazaar (shopping place) her name was Shaffa Bint Abdullah.

Right of Heritage

In the pre-Islamic era, women don’t have any right in the heritage of their dead ones. It only belongs to the sons. In Islam, women have a right in heritage. If someone dies then his/her heritance is divided according to Islamic rules among both male and female inheritance.

Marriage

In Islam, you can’t force any woman to marry at your choice. Women are free to either accept or reject any marriage proposal. As men can divorce a woman in Islam similarly woman can get Khula (divorce) from a man if she has authentic reasons.

Women can also go outside within the safety limits. Women can do trade and job while maintaining their hijab. Now a woman can also perform Umrah pilgrimage alone on visit visa. Women can book their personal Umrah by any Umrah travel agents.
